Workshops in Poland - Day Five
Energy day
We had a different structure today – Mr Brzeski came to us, at our accommodation, we all lounged in the beautiful wood cladded sitting room, safely away from ravaging mosquitoes – such relief! We shared some of our knowledge with him, showed him the straw bale film shot in Ludlow 2 weeks ago and discussed it.
Having seen the film there seemed to be a shift in his attitude towards the four South Shropshire District Council team, finally realising the depth of their expertise, and arranging an in depth conversation with them instead of asking them to take part in this afternoons physical tasks which were well within their realm already.

For the rest of us this afternoon we were set the following tasks:
1.To figure out the maths problem which occurred in finding the correct proportions for the sand/clay mix when creating a rammed earth wall. We had to add another 18% of clay to the sand that contained 7% clay. Basically the proportions worked out 5:1.
2.To successfully understand the process of rendering a wall, which consisted of throwing mud and straw mix at a wall, then flicking a thinner mix off the end of a trowel containing clay slip and cow poo. Claire and Wren had a great time with this, splattering everyone in the process and even getting Monika to join in with it.
Slight confusion in some of the teaching leaving individuals less than confident about what they had just learnt.
3.Making a glue and clay slip waterproof coating, which would be painted on the render coat of the Natural House. The recipe roughly consisted of a litre of water and 3 or more tablespoons of wheat flour brought to the boil water, stirred, strained and added to clay slip, thinned with cold water to a single cream consistency.

Coincidence? Some of us had an ‘energy’ discussion at breakfast followed by energy questions answered…. with even more energy questions forming now. Our late afternoon discussion about health aspects of sitting houses and sleeping places. We were told that energy streams underground could effect health very badly where they crossed and that there was evidence in research made by Dr Hartman, and others, which proves this.
The places where these energies crossed could cause Cancer and other physical problems. This was complete news for many of us, and indigestible rubbish to some of us too. Dr Hartman created grids in 1968 to show these cross overs around the world. Mr Brzeski had one in his old bedroom, and suffered effects from it, which could explain why he now sleeps in the Natural House.
Monica tells me that it is a normal situation for Polish people to have dowsers to come to the potential building site to check the energies and best orientation, rather like an Eastern European Feng Shui? Have the ever had this practice in Britain? When did we lose our innate sensitivity to the land?
Harmeet and I are just off now to see if we can find these energies in the land around our accommodation, while we’ve been writing this, Colin has been dowsing and has found something – exciting or what!
